Please (for the love of god) DO NOT keep Beastiary

I just want to throw it out there to the GGG team before they start deciding if this was a success or not. THIS WAS THE FIRST LEAGUE WHERE STANDARD WAS MORE FUN TO PLAY. This was by far the worst of all league introduced, and you can VERY clearly see that every other mechanic was more popular in this flashback race.

Lets talk Bestiary.

Pros:
- It is Path of Exile
- It will be over in a month

Cons:
- It is SUPER grindy
- There is very little payout
- It is very hard to know which animals you need
- It is very hard to tell which animals you already have
- You can't share special captures with friends
- You have to interrupt everything you are doing to do anything bestiary related
- Einhar is VERY annoying
- The red bosses are often three times harder than the area boss, and give worse rewards (and that is saying something because boss rewards are shit) ( I actually had an easier time vs the shaper, the elder, and uber atziri than some of the red bosses)
- You often die (or at least waste time) trying to check if you captured the one rare in the swarm of beasts
- You can't make the beasts fight - The beasts actually have almost no purpose at all
- It is way too complicated, and the crafting list is full of random sh*t you will never want to craft
- Boring
- Unrewarding
- Only 1 item is worth anything from this league. Looks like we have another HH situation, except HH is actually fun. Farrul's Fur is not.



Thank you for reading this far. I know reading is hard for the majority of the population. So is coming up with league that don't suck I guess. While you were sitting in the idea room no one said, "Hey this sounds kind of boring. Maybe we should try sticking with the theme of the game and make a new special damage type that can only be obtained by yada yada kill this and that... you know... the reason people are here. People (as far as I know) play POE for 2 main reasons. The mindless joy of slaughtering hundreds of enemies at a time, and playing the balance of the market. Hey I have an idea for a league: make an actual market. Not this player based decaying bull that loses all value as the league goes on. A market based on consumables. Consumables will not degrade in value because they are destroyed on use, making them more expensive over time (baring influx of the market outcomes, resulting in a reduced consumption and a reduced price). (see fragments, orbs, ect)

Anyway I went kind of on a tangent there. Bestiary sucked. PLEASE DO NOT KEEP IT.

I agree with the premise. Bestiary is not worth keeping in its current form.

The biggest problem is that the capturing process is no fun. It requires careful timing...in an online game, with lag. Everything else in the game (besides Vorici missions, which also suck) is about slaughtering all the things faster and more efficiently, but beast capturing makes you stop mid-fight and do something else.

Having said that, some of the crafting is very handy. I particularly like the get-5-new-prophecies, some of the re-roll choices, and the flask options. I'd love to see those incorporated somehow into future leagues. Without beast-capturing.

if you're too unskilled to catch beasts, kill them and use necro nets to get the good ones. there is plenty of time to check when they're dead.

if you're short of necro nets, sell thaumaturgical nets 3:1 to get them

if you're not up for a grindy game, poe might be the wrong game for you. also if you're looking for fast and easy rewards.

if you're not up to the challenge to kill difficult monsters or unable to ignore beasts i also have bad news for you, it's never gonna change.

the only valid point is information about beasts could be improved, i don't want to lookup if triceratops is a mammal or a hypodingsmumsSomethingLatin.

my experience with this 'mechanic' is limited - you can see the number next to my name. and it comes only from the race (so a very fun, bribery-type event engineered to cover the empty-after-the-month league)

so.. lets begin:

1) bloating the mechanic does not make it complex.

currently the 'beastcrafting' (cringy name..) consists of few VERY lucrative recipes, some interesting ones and 95% filler ones. most of the 'leveling' recipes (how bad these are when you have to name them this way?) are SO USELESS that even while leveling im not going to waste my time checking what they do, what do i need - and then doing all this managerie management

if all the junk recipes (honestly, some are so bad i doubt ANYONE EVER USED THEM) are removed and the strong and rare ones are kept - maybe, but right now - sorry. 'adrenaline flask' and 'movement speed boots' are all i care.

then the 'layer of complexity' - obscurity. unknown recipes, mob mods, weird spawn locations and mostly - mob type bloat. several names for the same squid? WHY? it already happened with prophecies when skeleton archers had like 6 names just to make our lives more grindy

i like complex games, civilization 4 is my all time fav game and it is a very complex game that is complex thanks to design not bloat and obscurity.
current bestiary implementation is primitive. it relies on obscurity and overloading players with useless 'knowledge' + the usual time sinks (managing managerie, all that fights necessary to craft anything - it is all a time tax so players 'enjoy' the game more)

2) execution

- nets.. what is the point of there being 10 tiers? what value it brings? this entire 'consumable' approach is horrible. this part is pure disaster.
- recipes - there being so many junk recipes makes people desensitivized to messages about new recipes. previous 15 recipes were junk so why read 16th one? there is no reason. other than you cannot skip these messages by default (seriously?)
- targeting nets on red beasts with all the gfx vomit on the screen? single target does not work in this mmorg. so why supposedly important mechanic is single target? for faux difficulty to spice things up? it makes me feel terrible playing.
- difficulty.. red beasts are prettty damn hard to fight but again, the difficulty is faux difficulty (because poe has rather primitive difficulty scaling - thresholds and stat checks) - graphic vomit, crowded screen, aoe damage and unreasonable hp pool.


it is obvious this mechanic stays - investment made, voice work and the big clue of it being present in the race. but the sad fact is - there is little reason to interact with it EXCEPT for typical bribery-like rewards: harb orbs, 30% qual, unique belt gamble etc. you all know the list. it is very short.

every other bit of this mechanic: catching, unique mods, junk recipes - is just a bloat. bloat that poe could really do without


It just makes it annoying as hell to play. Too much close attention manage annoying shit constantly. I fear they into it like wilson into nemesis for forcing players to "pay attention"-read kill if dont focus nonstop. It's just uneasy to play when it's there. Away!

They should simplify it greatly to keep it. Remove all the trash things and rewards, and keep only rare special things so you don't get them often and don't have to bother with too much trash spawns but when it spawns it's something that is mostly useful. Just remove those goddamn nets while you are at it. I know but how else it possibluh? The question is do i bother with stacking more of these annoying little items needed to be kept in inventory for play with the same tiny inventory since start?

Maybe change them altogether so there is only 1 net which is effectively a necro net but now all ones are captured when slain this is how capturing works now. Definitely some of them needs heavy nerf too particularly hp.

Just put an Abandon Quest option in Einhar's menus, same as any other Master.
please remove beastiary i am totally ignoring beast mechanics in race season and the f**king net icon is wasting my precious pixel space. it looks ugly and out of place too.

With this much backlash? Maybe I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt here, but there’s no way they could not only think to incorporate Bestiary into the core game, but also do it thinking it’s a good idea. It just doesn’t flow with the rest of the game at fucking all.

They've done it before. Backlash didn't stop them from bringing Bloodlines, Invasion (randomised monster sets in act zones was part of invasion league) or Torment into the base game. They'll make some post about GREATEST RETENTION EVER and "overwhelming positive feedback" and put it into the core game, because they've spent so much time on it and they're not mature enough to make the decision not to include it.
