How much Lifesteal do I need?

So I am playing a level 89 Champion in standard. I am quite happy with my build so far, I am just unsure, how I can calculate the amount of Lifesteal I need.

My offence right now (Buffed, but no Flasks/Charges etc). Only question is, how much life leech nodes do I need to take? Right now I have skilled this ring: here

But, can I just unskill all of those but 1, and instead take 1 mana leech node and have 2 free points to spend somewhere else? Or would I miss out on some regen? What is my Life Leech Cap and how can I calculate how much I am leeching right now?

I'm not sure if this life leech calculator is up to date or not but you can give it a try. It has helped me a lot for my slayer build.

Go to File tab > Make a Copy

standard life leech cap is 20% of your max life.
the leech node u have there says i believe "5% of max life to maximum life leech something"
so with solid dmg output u should be 25% unless u using vaal pact. do you?

btw u need accuracy my friend ;)

So, if I understand that correctly, with my stats (5100 HP, 40% increased life leeched per second and 5% addictional life % added to leech rate cap, 180000 DPS, 100% Phys), I reach the maximum amount I can reach per second after 6 hits and stay at that value.

If I reskill, and only skill 1 small node from that leech area mentioned earlier, I reach my max life leech rate after 5 hits, which is 200 HP/s lower than before.

What would you guys advise? Leave the skill points as it is right now, or reskill, and lose 200 HP/s, but gain some damage or HP somewhere else in the tree?

very, very true. Kinda hard to find good rings/amulets with enough res and accuracy if you are not playing soooo much and are kinda poor :D

Download Path of Building to your computer and import your character there, it will show you exactly how much life per second you can leech. The default is 20% of maximum life leeched per second. Meaning if your life is 5k then your maximum leech rate is 1000 life per second. Some passive nodes around the skilltree can increase that, notably Hematophagy and Vitality Void, both located near duelist area.

Leech in PoE is actually one of the more complex mechanic, I don't know why dev made it so but it is what it is.

I had no idea you can actually import a character! Just did that, now I can try everything out! Forthermore, I no longer have to buy and try out a new item, and then realise it's worse than my old item :D

well, im not rly sure how to calculate leech,
i only know if its not enough i take VP or carnage heart.
(both always worked as an easy solution to me to increase "facetankability")

last time i rly cared was long time ago,
and since then smt changed with the leech mechanic.

what i can say is that your leech cap is 1.275 at least, possibly more,
reaching this cap with 180k dps under half a second.
but thats what u also figured, nothing new here....

There are 3 types of leech values on the skill tree:

%Dmg leech as life

%increased life leeched per second

%maximum life to leech rate (*)


%maximum life to leech rate is the only value that increases your leech rate cap.

To see it in path of building just go to calc tab, scroll down and focus on "Leech and gain on it" section. It should fill you up with all needed information.

For your specific Champion character I suggest Lion Roar flask, Diamond Flask for more damage boost.

nah, im fine with my chest armour, I already invested into a 6L ;) Carnage Heart sounds great, but I tried it in Path of Building, and had problems with my resistances. So I won't be changing that anytime soon.

Life leech is worthless without instant leech (vaal pact) in end game scenarios.

Slap on an atziri's promise(and or vinktar) and it will be enough to outheal most things if your dps is high.
