Wings as an item
As a reference I would recommend looking at MU Online. That game had wings like that and believe me - they were awesome!
So let's get this started: I. WHAT FOR Wings would allow the character to fly. This way GGG could create on maps places without floor or ground and flying characters could pass through it. It would bring some cool visuals to the table and just imagine a map representing a city in the clouds where you absolutely could not walk at all (flying only). II. ITEM STATS Could be very basic. Wings could give only armor / evasion / ES or more complex. That would be up to the devs. With basic stats you could give option to upgrade wings using special currency to give more stats, but after few upgrades the next ones would have a chance of destroying the item (much like in MU). III. THE GOOD - well made wings look absolutely fantastic (once again, do check some gameplay of MU Online); - new currency sink and the item itself does not have to give character that much power; - always a new mechanic for maps and different take on flying mobs; - amazing visuals (flying in the sky, pools of lava or even holes in reality). IV. THE BAD - some new animations would be required on characters; - some skills would need a bit of rework (for example: groundslam would need a new animation to look more like a powerslam). V. THE UGLY Only one point really - the feel of the game. Wings don't go well with the fantasy of a left to die exile. However the things characters do lategame is also insane. So I figured that if they would allow wings to be aquired at the end of merciless or even in maps, then it might just work well. Dieser Beitrag wurde automatisch archiviert. GGG is not adding pants, or allowing us to change the genders of the available classes due to animation issues. I doubt this would even be considered.
And I don't like the idea, the gearing progression is already gated by stupid RNG which serves no purpose than draining the playerbase dry of currencies, to make it feel like there's some indepth mechanic, but it's just a boring grindfest of getting punished for using currencies, "wings" would just add yet another item that needs to be rolled. Also we got MTX wings, how would that even work. Lastly, how would ground effect skills work in the ground..? Sounds like you didn't think this through at all. I talked about ground effect on example of Groundslam.
These skills would require a bit of work, but I still think it would mostly be a matter of colors. As for MTX it's simple - you just use it on wings instead of body armor slot and change the look of wings. Not that hard. I do understand that wings to require quite a bit of work to be added. I just thought it has some potential. But that's for the dev's to think about :) |

Besides the simple "Why on earth wings?"
It would require major rebalance, since the stats given by wings would have to be removed somewhere else. But really, why should there be wings in the game. Besides a bit of magic here and there PoE has a rather realistic setting (well... actually oneshots are kinda realistic too^^). There isn't too much crazy shit going on. And even the kind of magic is more restricted, there are no meteor storms or giant volcanos you can create. So since Wings that would allow an armored warrior (thats about 150kg) would have to be huge, it is rather unlikely that they implement something totally out of place. Not to mention that there is no reason to. There is no need for wings in the game, so you would first have to create a need for wings and wings. That would be very similar to industry standards where you invent a new kind of screw to sell a new kind of screwdriver. |

I want a third arm and a second head. If Zaphod can do it, we should be able to.

Actually the only argument against this would be, we'd just fly off the bloody island we've been exiled to then.
